Something just a little bit different from usual for this new addition to the Images of War series, for the bulk of the pictures in this one are in colour, though there are still some black and white archive pictures. As usual, this is a photo book, but with some informative and well balanced background text to introduce each chapter, along with helpful captions on all of the photos as well.
A good collection of photos which make a good job of illustrating the many combat aircraft used by the USA over 100 years plus of history, from those flimsy, early biplanes, through to the supersonic and stealth aircraft of the 21st Century.

I enjoyed reading this book.
There is a lot going on here and the breathless descriptions of air combat and rescues at sea really work for me. Mr Thomas has done a first rate job and I hope his book does well. He has latched on to a man who deserved having a balanced and respectful biography for the modern reader. This is that book.
It will do much for patriotic Canadians as well, but we should all admire George Frederick Beurling wherever we happen to reside. He was the real deal.
War History Online
The author has done some fine research into these interesting 'X-craft' and their prototypes...
... This is a fascinating collection of information, and the author must have spent years assembling the data as so much original material was destroyed or taken away by the victorious allies and as he mentions, hidden away on various archives so that it is now pretty much impossible to unearth. For reference on the many and varied aircraft types designed under the banner of the Third Reich, this is just packed with interesting information for the aircraft historian, modeller and enthusiast.
