The book investigates the vast number of locomotives that came to the London Midland Region in 1948 at Nationalisation.

This is a class by class survey with over 200 illustrations, covering all the top link and freight classes, also looking at the smaller types of locomotive, operating on branch lines and doing more humble tasks.

The author explores what happened to them and also looks at those that eventually made their way into preservation.

This is a great book that comprehensively illustrates the locomotives of the early post Nationalisation era of the Midland Region. Early era British Railways enthusiasts will find much here of interest but so too will LMS fans as many of the photographs show varying classes of locomotives in LMS livery. An essential and well-illustrated guide that will find pride of place on the bookshelves of many enthusiasts of the late steam era of British Railways.

Tom Cole - Miniature Armoured Fighting Vehicles Association

"This is a very interesting and well-put-together book, and it brings to public view the author’s own photos of many years ago, which might not otherwise have been published. Enthusiasts of steam, and the LMR in particular, will find much to appreciate inside its covers."

Bradford Railway Circle

A magnificent picture album. A great visual tribute.
