The Royal Armoured Corps’ composition may have changed dramatically during the four and a half decades of The Cold War but its role in the nation’s defence has been predominant. This highly informative book focuses on the deployment of the British Army’s armoured regiments from the end of the Second World War, their vehicles and equipment, the creation of the British Army of the Rhine, NATO commitments and other peripheral missions. The characteristics and variants of the Centurion, the powerful but short lived Conqueror, the Chieftain and Challenger are covered in expert text and by numerous images. The RAC in the Cold War is a tribute to the men who served in these famous regiment and their stories make fascinating reading.

Armour modellers will find this book highly informative, both in terms of vehicle appearance and equipment stowage, but diorama builders are likely to gain the most inspiration.

Airfix Model World, July 2017

Not too wordy, good extended captions for most of the images supported by good tables all make this a worthwhile purchase for armoured enthusiast and modeller alike. Highly recommended.

Military Modelling Magazine

This, a recent title in the publisher’s Images of War series, focuses on the deployment of the British Army’s armoured regiments from the end of WW2, through the creation of the British Army of the Rhine, to NATO and other commitments. The Centurion, the Conqueror, Chieftain and Challenger main battle tanks are covered, as are many other armoured vehicles that saw service during the period under review. In addition to the many monochrome photographs that have been included, the authors have compiled a number of tables showing deployments and organisation, which will be useful for reference purposes.

Another excellent book in the Images of War series from Pen and Sword. As per usual with this series you can judge a book by it's cover and title.

Opening the book we are immediately greeted by various photo's which take us nicely into the first chapter. With many of these books the reader is simply struck by the size of the post war army.

Even if you didn't serve in the RAC this is an excellent historical look at one of the British Army's Corps over a period of 45 years.

Well researched, well written and at ÂŁ16:99 a decent addition to the bookshelf.

5 Stars from me.

ARRSE

A new title in the Images of War series by two well known authors who really know their topics. There is a fair bit of text in this one, compared to many of the Images of War series, and it tells a very interesting story... An excellent addition to the Images of War series and lots of useful information coupled with an equally good selection of period photos to illustrate the story.
