The 7th Marquis of Anglesey, author of the excellent eight-volume 'History of the British Cavalry, 1816-1919', passed away on 13 July, aged 90. He received obituaries in both The Times and The Telegraph.

George Charles Henry Victor Paget was born on October 8 1922 into a family of distinguished soldiers, whom he honoured by producing an eight-volume history of the British Cavalry. When the first part was published in 1973, it was described as 'a work of astounding ability' and won the Chesney Gold Medal of the Royal United Services Institute for Military History in 1996.

His acclaimed eight-volume history of the British Cavalry took 25 years to complete and filled a gap in military history.
