This is a title that works at a couple of levels. If you’re a Bond fan, it’s a fascinating guide to UK locations which feature in Bond films. The films are listed and the locations are set out by country and county, with references to locate the places. If your travelling, it’s an ideal companion to take you to places you may not have thought about as a place of interest and I was surprised to discover a number of locations I didn’t know had Bond connections. It’s packed with photos and pictures and there’s a wealth of Bond related information for the film buff. I’ve found it interesting to read without actually travelling and it’s proved relaxing and informed. I’ve noted a few places if interest next time I’m out and about and will certainly take a physical look at the locations.

If you look at the other reviews posted here, most – if not all – are from reviewers outside the US (where I live). If you ask many of your friends over, say, 60 years old (anyone younger would not appreciate the “Carry on” films) they would probably respond, “Wasn’t That the sex comedy ‘Carry on Nurse’?” Well, that’s where – in 1959 – at age 15 (!) I first saw the film No “ratings then” and I’ll always remember the daisy (flower) that is used in one of the final scenes. Well, many years later – when DVDs were introduce-, I was given a set of the TV version – which is not as funny as the films. But I found the film collection. Yes, they were dated by but the cast was funny (most times). So, I recently heard about this book “When the Carry On Stopped” (WTCOS)” –and I was sent a copy by the publisher for an objective review. Then I saw another book “Carry on Regardless” from the same publisher. It was first published in 2022 but revised in 2025.. Read more

As someone of similar age to the author but living an ocean apart, the only things I knew of the punk movement were from records my older brother played. Therefore, I very much enjoy the way Palmer lays out this discussion and appreciate the education on the factors that contributed to the rise of the punk movement in the UK.
Looking back now, decades later, I recognize many of the names and players in the movement. Over time, I became familiar with many from the post-punk and new-wave movements that followed. All of it I can look back on fondly as I enjoy so many types of music from that time period. I am glad to have the history documented in such a manner.

Most all of us have an innate fear or sharks but we don’t even understand what causes that in the big picture. This book was so informative and really taught me the history of shark attacks, our fear of them, and how humans have misunderstood sharks since the dawn of time. This gives me a far greater appreciation of the species as a whole.

“It might be unauthorized, but this book sure is comprehensive. This isn’t just a book about a game. The author focuses on the people who created it and expanded it over the decades as well as the people whose contributions have been hidden in the shadows. A richly detailed, exciting, and frequently surprising history.”
