"A brief but informative introduction gives all the salient facts about the vehicle, and is followed by a splendid collection of photographs of the bus in service up and down Britain."

"The book’s many photographs show the buses at work in their operating territory which stretched between Leeds, Bradford, Ilkley and Harrogate, with interesting street and scenic views. For the enthusiast of buses of that period, as well as people with a specific interest in Ledgard’s, this will be a worthwhile addition to the library."

This is the latest in Matthew Wharmby’s series on the various London bus types, and is similar in style and content. There is comprehensive text covering the history of the type, followed by full details of the introduction changes and final demise. It is copiously illustrated throughout. The period covered was one where much of the variety of liveries was largely supercede by overall; red, but it is interesting to see that even with this restriction variety did survive.

Copiously illustrated with over 270 photographs, virtually all of which are being published for the first time, this is the story of London Buses over sixteen tumultuous years. To give greater context to the narrative, annual vehicle acquisition listings show how purchasing policy changed over the period; important route changes, tendering gains and losses and a fleet list for the entire period are also included. There are also interesting maps showing the changes in bus garages in the period. It’s a well produced quality book, which will sit well on the shelves of anyone interested in the buses of our capital city.

A very nostalgic book, and definitely gives a good view of the time.
