New York City native Walter Westcote graduated from Brown University and worked as a trust administrator, pension actuary, and administrator of 401(k) plans. His interest in the Civil War arose in part because of his exposure at a young age to stories of his great-great-grandfather, Union General Isaac P. Rodman, who was mortally wounded at Antietam. He has collected books on the Civil War era for much of his life.
