Operation Pied Piper

1st September 1939

Operation Pied Piper was a British evacuation plan launched on September 1, 1939, at the start of World War II. Its goal was to move about 1.5 million children, teachers, and other vulnerable people from cities to the countryside to protect them from Luftwaffe bombings. Many were placed with rural families, while some were even sent abroad, including to Canada. The operation was vital in safeguarding Britain’s younger population during the war.
