In partnership with Glassboxx and Script Books, Pen & Sword Books has developed an app exclusively for reading eBooks and listening to audiobooks purchased on this website.

The Script Books app offers easy-to-use audiobook and eBook access, all in one place.

Below you will find instructions and helpful tips for accessing eBook and audiobook content.

Accessing Your Books

Setting Up an Account and Logging in

eBook/audiobook customers will need to create an account at checkout to enable us to deliver eBooks and audiobooks to the Script Books app. Once you have purchased an eBook or audiobook from the Pen & Sword Books website, you will receive a confirmation email. The email will contain links to download our app to access your book.

When you open the app, log in with your email address (no password is required) and all your purchased content will be displayed on the MY BOOKS screen.

Tap on the cover image to start listening to or reading your new book.

Reading or Listening in Your Web Browser

You can read or listen to your purchased content in the browser by logging in with your email address. The Browser Reader is available here: https://scriptbooks.glassboxx.com/auth1.php

Verification Code

You need a verification code to log into the app.

After you enter your email address on the login screen, we will send a verification code to the email address you entered. The email will come from Glassboxx and has the subject "Your Glassboxx Verification Code." You might need to check your spam folder to see the verification email.

Copy and paste the code from the email into the verification screen and tap VERIFY ME. You will then be taken to the MY BOOKS screen, and you can start using the app to read or listen to your book.

Can I use another app to read or listen to my book?

While our eBooks and audiobooks are available for purchase from other retailers or platforms, purchases made on the Pen & Sword website can only be enjoyed on our branded mobile or desktop apps, powered by Glassboxx.

eBook File Formats

Pen & Sword Books publishes eBooks in ePub formats. Some exclusions may apply.

ePub

An ePub file is an eBook that is readable on most devices, including mobile phones, tablets, and computers. These may be read in the Glassboxx mobile/desktop app or in the Browser Reader.

Troubleshooting Tips

Trouble Logging in

If you are having problems logging in to the app - for example if you see the message "Email address not recognised" - make sure the email address you are entering on the login screen is the email address used when making your purchase from our website. This may be different from the one you are using for your app store account.

After following the steps above, if you continue to see the message "Email address not recognised", please contact [email protected]

Mobile app not loading content correctly

If the mobile app is not loading correctly, open the mobile app and click on the three dots (...) located at the bottom of the screen. Choose LOGOUT and then when prompted re-enter your email address. Choose LOGIN and enter the verification code sent to your email. Your content should now load.

Transferring your books to a new device

If you have a new device, simply download our app from the app store, log in with the email address used when you purchased your books, and you will find them under MY BOOKS.

Changing font size in eBooks

If you are unable to change the font size, please disable ‘Publisher styles’ in ‘User Preferences’ first.

Accessing your eBooks and audiobooks bought prior to 5th March 2026

Since 5th March 2026, eBooks and audiobooks bought from us are available using the Script Books app. For eBooks and audiobooks bought prior to 5th March 2026, you can still download them from the link sent in your purchase email, or the My Account section of our website, and then use the default eBook reader/audiobook player on your device.

Downloading to your phone/tablet

Our audiobooks will not work on apps such as Audible, Apple Books or Kobo Books. We recommend the free and safe app, BookPlayer.

  1. Go to the audiobook you wish to purchase on our website, click “Add to basket” and purchase the audiobook through the checkout.
  2. Once you have gone through the checkout, you will receive an email confirmation which includes a download link. You can download the file directly from this email or continue to your account to activate your download. You will need to sign in to your account on our website in order to access the file in this way. You can sign in here: https://www.pen-and-sword.co.uk/account.
  3. Your audiobook will start to download.
  4. Once downloaded, your audiobook will show in your phone’s Files app or Downloads app (this may differ slightly on Apple or Android devices).
  5. Open up the BookPlayer app.
  6. Go to “Import Files” and choose your downloaded audiobook.
  7. Go to “Create playlist” and name this the title of the audiobook.
  8. The audiobook will then appear in your BookPlayer playlist and you can start listening.
  9. Please note:- our audiobooks are quite large files and so if you wish to delete them from your phone after listening, you can always log back onto your Pen & Sword account at any time to re-download.

Downloading to a computer

Our audiobooks will work fine on Windows Media Player or other MP3 players on computers and laptops.

  1. Go to the audiobook you wish to purchase on our website, click “Add to basket” and purchase the audiobook through the checkout.
  2. Once you have gone through the checkout, you will receive an email confirmation which includes a download link. You can download the file directly from this email or continue to your account to activate your download. You will need to sign in to your account on our website to access the file in this way.   3. Your audiobook will start to download and will ask you where you want to save the file. This can be saved in any folder on your computer. If you don’t request a specific folder, it will download to your “Downloads” folder.
  4. When completed, double click on the audiobook file. You can listen to the audiobook on Windows Media Player (general) or even import the files onto your iTunes account if you have one.

Please note: once a digital product (eBook or audiobook) has been purchased, you will no longer be entitled to a refund on that title if you should wish to change your mind.
