Alex Dimond has been studying Sparta for many years at Manchester University, first at undergraduate and Masters level and for the last 4 years working towards a PhD on the use of Mercenaries and the importance of Naval Power in the early Hellenistic Period. She is currently taking a sabbatical from these studies to take care of her first child. This is her first book. She lives in Plymouth.
