This major work is the definitive study of the mint at Bury St Edmunds, one of England's longest-lived medieval mints. Dr Eaglen presents the history of the mint from its inception in the reign of Edward the Confessor until the coinage reform of 1279, set in its historical context. He also provides a definitive listing of the coin types and moneyers known from Bury St Edmunds.

The book includes a catalogue and die-study of over 3,000 coins, as well as 21 plates. It is the fifth book to be published in the Societys series of Special Publications, which was established in 1991 to enable the publication of significant monographs on British numismatics.
