An interesting book giving a really different perspective of Iraq and the Iraqi war and invasion, told by the author, a female security operative working in a male dominated world of war.

The author details her life from the average life in the UK to training and then working in Iraq. The book captures the authors day to day life and the challenges thrown at her, with the many ups and downs.
A new perspective and one that gives an honest and real view of what life was life working for the military services in Iraq.
I had never read a book written by anyone who had been in Iraq, let alone a woman who started off working in retail, initially!

Lisa decides to get security training, at great expense, and her descriptions of what she had to go through to pass that training and subsequently the unusual working conditions she had to put up with, make for interesting reading.
I like that Lisa doesn't shy away from the more negative aspects of this environment but she seems to be a "live and let live" kind of person and I am sure that stood her in good stead when she was over there. There is a LOT that I have no idea about when it comes to the politics of the situation in the Middle East but this book is written from the point of view of someone who lived and worked there, and tried to just treat people as human beings. Tough work environment, I would last two seconds in that heat!
It was an good read... I give it 4 stars.
Here in this book, we follow the journey of Lisa Morgan, who worked at a mobile phone shop when the news broke about the two planes crashing into the towers. I feel like I really understand her feelings. How life can feel completely normal, but suddenly we get an unusual thought like 'becoming a bodyguard', and we just ... go with it, even if we're the only woman there.

It amazed me when she took the test and realized she actually had an advantage because of her childhood, and she used that advantage during the test. No wonder she ended up getting accepted and taking another great offers. I really enjoyed following her journey (even when she had to deal with annoying people like that princess lol) until she was finally assigned to an airport in Iraq.
I loved how Lisa Morgan doesn't just tell us about her work experience, but also about how she learned to understand the country and its culture. She portrays the Muslims there really well, like describing the call to prayer and 'Allahu Akbar'. I could really feel that she genuinely enjoyed being there and always tried to see the positive side, even when some people were bit bossy and annoying. (For the princess too. "Not all the princesses behaved as badly as her; I guess I was just unlucky.")
"Lisa Morgan gives the reader a captivating narrative with no holds barred and I thoroughly recommend this work to the general reader as well as those with an interest in the less visible aspects of conflict."
