This book is one of the first scientific texts to present technology applied to cultural heritage as a tool of scientific diplomacy, and it serves as evidence of a successful project where technology becomes a means to preserve the memory and identity of countries in conflict, such as Sudan. The last war in Sudan broke out on April 15, 2023. Several months prior, the Institute of Heritage Science (CNR-Italy), a Sudanese University, Comboni College of Science and Technology, and the Italian Embassy in Khartoum had begun collaborating on the application of technology to Sudanese cultural heritage. Time unfortunately showed that the training project was particularly relevant to protect the cultural heritage that would be threatened and destroyed by the conflict. This scientific diplomacy project, called "SudanInnovation: A new Sudan through culture, technology and innovation", was part of the "Integrated promotion and re-launch of the country system", funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The book analyzes the project and presents it as a point of reference for similar experiences.
