Results of three archaeological rock-shelter excavations and surveys of minor sites conducted in eastern Zambia in 1966, 1970 and 1971 revealinig an archaeological sequence covering the later phases of the Middle and the development of the Late Stone Age. The author discusses the technology and economy of the inhabitants in relation to the changing environmental conditions of eastern Zambia, and to contemporary events in other regions of south-central Africa demonstrating that these industtries were an essentially local development.
