This study aims to restore Prudentius and late Roman poetry in  general to a more central place in the formation of a new  Christian intellectual tradition in the fourth century AD. Marc  Mastrangelo shows how Prudentius was able to fuse ideas from  Virgil and Horace with Platonism and biblical exegesis to explore  the idea of self in a newly Christian world.
