The third book in Chris Scullion’s series of video game encyclopaedias, the Sega Mega Drive and Genesis Encyclopedia is dedicated to Sega’s legendary 16-bit video game console. The book contains detailed information on every single game released for the Sega Mega Drive and Genesis in the west, as well as similarly thorough bonus sections covering every game released for its add-ons, the Mega CD and 32X. With nearly a thousand screenshots, generous helpings of bonus trivia and charmingly bad jokes, the Sega Mega Drive and Genesis Encyclopedia is the definitive guide to a legendary gaming system.

I wanted to look at this book as I enjoy playing video games and learning more about them.
Most of the games in this book I haven't personally played but have heard a lot about throughout my life.
It is the best encyclopedia for anyone who finds themselves trying to remember a game from their lives and can't put their finger on what it was.
The book is in three parts, handily colour co-ordinated at the top for easy access to the area you want. The first section is all the games on the Mega Drive, then two bonus sections: Mega CD and 32X games.
Each game has the year they came out, the publisher, the developer, a picture from the game and the story/what the game is about. Each one also has a fact about the game in a bubble in the corner, which is always helpful for random pop trivia.
If you want to know more about Sega games and have a handy reference for each one then this book is for you.

One thing I’ve always admired about his writing is his to make what you’re reading feel like you’re talking to him over a table at a cafe, as he draws you in as a reader ensuring that he’s never talking down to his audience, rather sharing his knowledge on something he’s clearly an expert in. The Mega Drive and Genesis Encyclopedia is no exception. These books are behemoths and the preservation of these classic games is something he clearly takes very seriously. That he can take on these giant projects and still make it feel like he’s talking directly to you in his calm, easy going style is one hell of a talent.
