I loved this! A great read for DIY-ers, feminists, and history buffs. The mood is light and readable considering the topic - the fatalities of wartime (and other sad bits, like sending kids to the countryside for safety) are respected but not the focus of the book. The book lives up to its promise: here’s what to know about surviving and thriving in WW2 England, as if you were a time traveler. The author’s personal photos and tidbits from her mother are well-placed and sweet. The history really comes to life this way - how would you prepare your meals, talk (or not talk!) to neighbors, or entertain yourself? So many details about how people got creative, like decorating their required gas mask bags (which may have actually contained their lunches.) Will absolutely check out the author’s other titles and suggest this book to my shoppers.

I remember sitting in front of the TV in our family room on Sunday September 17, 1978, to watch the three hour debut of this show. At age 13, I was all in on sci-fi thanks to Logan's Run and Star Wars from a few years before. I watched every week faithfully. I even bought the comic books published by Marvel and the novelization. I even once started writing my own sci-fi story inspired by Galactica. So, seeing this cover brought back all those nostalgic feels for me. Fratantuono gives love to this single season of television. His dedication to the show is on full display in this book. I appreciated the inclusion of eight pages of color photos in the book as well.

[b]Rating[/b]: 5 out of 5 stars History's Greatest Philosophers gives us a look at the people, those individuals who are credited with being some of the most impressive, deep-thinking, and impressive people to have lived. I've never been much of a student of philosophy, but a look at the histories of these great minds, and how their beginnings, their trials and tribulations, and the world in which they lived that all combined to give them their ideas and their philosophies, was fascinating. Many of the philosophers I have been familiar with, others I was reading about for the first time. Some of these I will be reading about more.

[b]Rating[/b]: 5 out of 5 stars Despite its county-specific title, the book is of much wider value: it won’t be difficult to work out where to look for information in other English counties. It’s a pity I don’t have the time these days to go chasing the higher branches of my family tree. If I did I think I would be able to find much more than the basic information which I already have. I was unaware of the wealth of available information and how much it could add to an understanding, not just of one’s own family, but of wider social history in the local area.
