Lee Chapman is an excellent photographer and writer who has taken it upon himself to document in photographs many of the historic aircraft still surviving and flying in the UK. This volume covers not only “the usual suspects”, that is the Spitfire and Hurricane, but also the trainers and support aircraft which enabled the front-line pilots to gain their skills in the first place. The Bristol Beaufighter is also included with the first example having been delivered in August 1940. Those of us lucky enough to live in the UK and who are able to visit museums like Old Warden and Duxford will be familiar with many of these individual aircraft; indeed I have photographed many of them myself; however I have to say that unless you are as good a photographer as the late Alex Whittaker, the pictures in this book will be better than most of yours! Whilst the text is necessarily brief, pride of place rightly being given to the superb photographs, it is very informative. Any aeromodeller interested.. Read more
