Rating: 5 out of 5 stars 50 Years of Boss Fights - Video Game Legends by Daryl Baxter is an absolute blinder of a book! Whether you are GenX, a gamer, a cultural historian, a lover of cartoons or just someone who loves a good boss fight in all its forms, this is defo the book for you I am GenX and I still get chills when I see Bahamut and Sephiroth, giving hundreds, yes hundres of hours of my 20s to playing every single minutae of FFVII ad FFVIII... and FFX, FFX-2, FFXIII (you get the idea) But not only does this book cover the epics of PS lover history, but also the greats of Nintendo, Sega, XBox and PC (plus many more) I really enjoy how this book is clearly written from a first-hand perspective, and Daryl Baxters passion for the pastime is utterly infectious! I think I have mentioned before that it is always a real joy to read a gamer book of sheer happiness without judgement and that is what you get here, just an utter delight at the journey to and foray into battles with the.. I love video games as a whole and enjoyed the Gothic elements in a lot of video games. This had everything that I was looking for and enjoyed the way this was done and was well researched. I thought Christopher Carton has a great writing style and it was written perfectly.

The Most Relaxing Video Games does exactly what it says on the tin and explores over 50 different video games which are all relaxing to play and non-violent. As someone who finds many of the popular video games stressful, this book was perfect for suggestions of games from puzzles to simulations which would be fun to play.
I really liked that screenshots from the games were included as it provided a great insight into the style of the game and whether its something I would enjoy. The fun facts included throughout were a nice addition and were quite interesting. I thought it was great that for each game it was clearly specified which devices it would work on as this is something I struggle with when trying to find games which I can play on my PC...
Overall, this is a great hand book of relaxing video games and I will definitely be downloading a few of these games myself!

It was really interesting to learn about consoles that are familiar to me as well as some consoles that I've never heard of. It was great to be able to see the progression through the systems up to the technology that we see today.
