"A deeply personal story. Brave. Revelatory. Digs deep into the key issues facing modern day veterans.'"- Damien Lewis

"Wayne has a wealth of knowledge and experience from serving his country and helping to stop suffering on a global scale. He continues to do so although fighting his own battles. 'Soldier of Conscience' is a true testament of hearts and minds, using our experience to do amazing things and changing lives for the better. An inspiration to all to find a solution to solving personal problems by helping others." - Billy Billingham QCB, MBE

"This is an account of moral bravery in action. We owe a great deal to men like Wayne Ingram and there are not too many of them." - Lord Julian Fellowes

Soldier of Conscience is the true story of Wayne Ingram M.B.E, a British soldier who, after experiencing the horrors of war and battling Complex PTSD, finds his life changed by a four-year-old boy named Stefan. Born into a war-torn country and severely disfigured, Stefan’s encounter with Wayne begins a journey of healing for both of them. Over the course of 13 years, Wayne's aggression and trauma are softened by Stefan’s love, courage, and the bond they share. Their relationship helps Wayne rediscover a life beyond war and violence, ultimately leading him to become a better, more compassionate person.

Ingram’s story takes readers through various chapters of his life—his military service in reconnaissance, the challenges of PTSD, his work as a paramedic, and his volunteer efforts as a firefighter. The book also details his career in remote medicine, including time spent in war zones like Iraq and Africa, where he faced personal and professional challenges. Along the way, readers are immersed in his fundraising efforts, such as surviving a life raft challenge and organizing a 24-hour cycling event to build an orphanage in Africa.

This is an emotional and multi-faceted narrative, blending themes of love, courage, death, mental health struggles, and personal growth. Written from the heart, it is a raw and honest account of a man who overcame his past through the transformative power of love and compassion. This memoir resonates with anyone facing personal battles, making it relatable to a wide audience.

Mesmerising as I was totally enthralled reading this somwwll.written autobiographical journey that at times I was almost moved to tears.
In a world full of politics and regulation how easy is it to only think of oneself as opposed to demonstrating real humanity!
Reading 'Soldier of Conscience' written by Wayne Ingram not only describing his life as a soldier, ambulance paramedic, fireman, medic, but also his ongoing philanthropic activities is an inspiring story. It is so humbling to recognise the limited effort we as individuals have contributed when compared to those helping our fellow planet occupants really in need.
I can absolutely and totally recommend this book to anyone and everyone as a must read (at the very least) to put the world we live in, into perspective.
It is well written, factual and complimented with personal emotion that cannot help to realise our reliance on the very few who have the courage to value others more than just ourselves.
There are few books that have moved me so deeply.
Highly recommended especially for those old enough to recall many of these tragic events in recent history.

Powerful, Honest, and Deeply Moving

Soldier of Conscience is a memoir that pulls no punches. Wayne Ingram MBE tells his story with unflinching honesty, capturing the realities of life as a British soldier and, more importantly, what follows when the battlefield is left behind — but the war rages on inside.

His writing offers a raw and deeply human portrayal of PTSD, moral injury, and the struggle to make sense of life after conflict. This is not just a story of war; it’s about rebuilding, reconnecting, and rediscovering what it means to live with purpose.

A Voice That Speaks to Veterans – and Everyone Else

What makes this book so effective is Wayne’s tone — grounded, direct, and without ego. His reflections are at times painful, often thought-provoking, but always real. Whether you’ve served, know someone who has, or simply want to better understand the human cost of service, this book delivers.

Wayne does not romanticise war, nor does he dwell in pity. Instead, he speaks frankly about trauma, identity, and the long, complicated process of healing. His willingness to be vulnerable gives the book its heart and makes it deeply relatable — not only for those in the military, but for anyone facing internal battles.

A Life of Service – In and Out of Uniform

The most powerful element of Soldier of Conscience is how it shows service beyond the military. Wayne’s work as a paramedic, firefighter, and remote medic reflects a life committed to helping others. His bond with a young boy named Stefan — who survived major surgery after being born with severe facial deformities — adds an emotional depth that stays with you long after reading.

Through charity work, awareness campaigns, and endurance challenges, Wayne has taken his pain and channelled it into something far greater than himself. His story is one of resilience, transformation, and the power of human connection.

Final Thoughts

Soldier of Conscience is not just a military memoir. It is a tribute to courage — not just on the battlefield, but in facing one’s own reflection. Wayne Ingram MBE has written something truly meaningful.

It will stay with you, challenge you, and perhaps most importantly, inspire you to see the world — and those around you — a little more compassionately.

Preordered and received a couple of days ago. I cannot put the book down. It is so real and honest. From the very start when Wayne was a child and through the years, I found it absolutely absorbing, losing track of time reading it. His experience in the military and through. It is powerful, refreshing and intense and at times emotional.

About Wayne Ingram MBE

Wayne Ingram joined the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment in 1986 at the age of 17 where he was immediately sent to Germany as part of the British Army on Rhine (BAOR) during the Cold War against the Warsaw Pact. It was whilst stationed in Germany he passed and qualified as a Commando in the French Army and found his love of reconnaissance duties. In 1992 this niche in soldiering led him to transfer to the 9th/12th Royal Lancers, a designated reconnaissance regiment.

He has served numerous operational tours in war zones including Northern Ireland and Bosnia Herzegovina as a soldier and Iraq and Africa as a private security operator Paramedic.A chance meeting with a 4 year old Bosnian boy in 2003 redirected a life of war and fighting to one of fundraising, eventually seeing him receiving the Member of the Order of The British Empire (MBE) in the Queen's Birthday Honours 2021. He now works full time as a remote offshore Specialist Paramedic
