I remember sitting in front of the TV in our family room on Sunday September 17, 1978, to watch the three hour debut of this show. At age 13, I was all in on sci-fi thanks to Logan's Run and Star Wars from a few years before. I watched every week faithfully. I even bought the comic books published by Marvel and the novelization. I even once started writing my own sci-fi story inspired by Galactica. So, seeing this cover brought back all those nostalgic feels for me.
Fratantuono gives love to this single season of television. His dedication to the show is on full display in this book. I appreciated the inclusion of eight pages of color photos in the book as well.

History's Greatest Philosophers gives us a look at the people, those individuals who are credited with being some of the most impressive, deep-thinking, and impressive people to have lived.
I've never been much of a student of philosophy, but a look at the histories of these great minds, and how their beginnings, their trials and tribulations, and the world in which they lived that all combined to give them their ideas and their philosophies, was fascinating.
Many of the philosophers I have been familiar with, others I was reading about for the first time. Some of these I will be reading about more.

I found this book far more enjoyable than I expected. Since it’s a history book, I thought it might be dry or overwhelming with too much information, but it turned out to be nothing like that. The stories were truly fascinating, and reading them felt almost like diving into a historical romance novel. What makes it even better is that all these characters were real people. It was both captivating and educational at the same time :)
I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a different kind of history book!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars Absolutely loved reading this so much. Loved all the stories of women I would have never heard of otherwise. Some of these people would be out on the smuggling runs, while others were just hiding the illegal goods. My favorite story was about Peggy Potts, who got caught one night with a jug of trafficked liquor. She managed to pour it out and fill it with water when the cop wasn't looking before he took her in, and then he got laughed at by everyone when he took her in for illegal goods, when she only had water on her. There were so many amazing stories just like that one shared in this book, ones that I would have never heard about. This would actually be good for historical fiction writers who want to include references that haven't been used a million times in the past. Would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for their next non-fiction book. This actually would be a great book for those fiction readers who have been thinking about reading.. Read more

An interesting look at the Great Fire of London and how it affected the ordinary people who lived through it, not just the royals who some thought were responsible.
