Despatches in this volume include those relating to the sinking of the German battleship Graf Spee in the Battle of the River Plate in 1939, the loss of the battleships HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse in the Far East, the sinking of the German battle cruiser Scharnhorst in 1943, the attack on Tirpitz by midget submarines, the contribution by British Pacific Fleet to the assault on Okinawa in 1945 (which included four Royal Navy battleships), and the sinking of Bismarck in 1941.

This unique collection of original documents will prove to be an invaluable resource for historians, students and all those interested in what was one of the most significant periods in British military history.

This is an interesting selection of wartime combat reports, giving a good idea of how the people involved in the battles saw them. There is also an interesting insight into the process of gathering intelligence in the case of the attack on the Tirpitz, with a series of reports produced as more information became available, ending with the report written after the British survivors were released at the end of the war.

Capital Ships at War (ISBN 9781783462049) includes official reports on the Battles of the River Plate and Denmark Straight; the despatch from Admiral Tovey on the loss of HMS Hood; the reports on the sinking of HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse from the senior surviving officer; full despatches on the midget submarine attack upon the Tirpitz, as well as a full account of the British Pacific Fleet in 1945.
The War at Sea in the Mediterranean (ISBN 9781783462223) comprises of a detailed summary of the Malta convoys, the official account of the Taranto raid; reports of the Battles of Matapan, Sirte, Calabria and Cape Spartivento and despatches on Coastal Forces and actions in the Agean.
