This is the first guide to sites in the British Isles connected to the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars to be published. Stately homes, memorials, statues, dockyards, fortifications, tombs, churches, hospitals and museums associated with the wars are all described in vivid detail. There are hundreds of such sites with many of them being closely linked to military heroes like Wellington and Nelson and the forces they commanded.
Highpoints include not only St Paul’s Cathedral, Nelson’s Column and Apsley House in London but more obscure monuments and buildings outside the capital like Edinburgh Castle, HMS Victory in Portsmouth Dockyard, the Western Heights Fortifications in Dover, Fishguard invasion site in Wales, Castlebar battlefield in Ireland and Martello towers along the English coastline. Many minor sites of great interest are listed too.

This is the perfect tour guide for history lover in the UK. Every chapter is about an event or key player in the Napoleonic war. There are so many pictures and tips for the different statues and buildings. I would definitely recommend for travellers and enthusiasts!

Overall, nice book nothing to nitpick In this book, the author makes us explores the great history of the Napoleonic Britain era monuments, Churches, tombs, personalities, museums, statues and so on.
Special mention should be made about the Chapter 9 because in that chapter David Buttery gives complete knowledge on how to plan for Britain tour.
In that chapter, Author David previously worked as a tourist guide so he uses that expertise and gives his insight on where to stay, photography, by which mode of transport we need to choose based on needs and so on..
About David Buttery
David Buttery has established a reputation as a leading historian of nineteenth-century British military history. He has made a particular study of the Napoleonic and Crimean wars. He has worked in newspapers and museums and has published extensively in many of the leading military history periodicals including the Victorian Military Society's journal, The Leicestershire Chronicle and Military Illustrated. His most recent books are Wellington Against Massena: The Third Invasion of Portugal 1810-1811, Messenger of Death: Captain Nolan and the Charge of the Light Brigade, Wellington Against Junot: The First Invasion of Portugal 1807-1808 and the Waterloo Battlefield Guide.
