Rating: 5 out of 5 stars The Pub Lover's Guide to London by Callum Moy Had me absolutely intrigued as I have spent many a weekend enjoying the more "fluid" aspects of London but mostly around the Camden area (I was so very surprised when The Worlds End and Dingwalls were not featured due to their cultural significance to the music and comedy scene, but maybe next time?) Nevertheless, I dived in and what a joy! I am going to be following this book as a guide next trip as one thing I have not done is explored some of these locations in detail (I am especially keen to visit St Mary Axe, more for the literary reference than historical to be fair, but the historical is a plus! The photography is wonderful and I especially liked the composition capturing the grandeur and pagentry of the Trafalgar Tavern with brilliant sunshine and flags fluttering. The images throughout authentically capture the heart and history of the location, a perfect representation of iconic locations The book is.. Read more

This book is a concise and interesting biography of Katheryn Parr, the sixth wife of King Henry VIII. Not only did I learn about this incredible woman and her selflessness despite a difficult life and even more tragic end, but it was fascinating to see the influence her life had on the future Queen Elizabeth I and how it still resonates today. Reading this during Women’s History Month was fitting; Katheryn deserves recognition beyond being just one of the wives.
The author did a wonderful job and I recommend this book for anyone interested in the Royals.

I love this period of time and loved reading more about the sisters of Richard III, the king who seemed to be cursed due to the lost Princes in the Tour. I enjoyed the well written and told story of his sisters as they went onto become well known women in history, powerful women especially Maggie who became Queen of Scotland - someone I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of.
A fantastic journey into the past with Sarah's storytelling of a period after The War of the Roses or the Hundred Years War before the Tudors came along.

Sailing into the Past
Until recently, there was little practical knowledge of the ships of the distant past. We could only surmise as to the manner in which a Viking ship sailed or how fast a Greek trireme could be rowed.
