Adolf Hitler – a ranting, evil demagogue whose insane ambitions and beliefs took the world to the brink of extinction and caused the deaths of millions.

And yet there was another side to the Fuhrer, one that was rarely seen and even now remains unknown by most people. It was a softer side, a gentler side that, in the main, came out only in his dealings with the women in his life. With his secretaries and other female staff he was caring and considerate – almost without exception they have recorded that he was an employer of compassion and understanding, someone who was really interested in their lives.

Eva Braun is a well-known figure but she was not alone in her role as the Fuhrer’s lover. Dozens of women preceded her, people like Mitzi Reiter, Henny Hoffmann and his own niece Geli Raubal. To them and the many more who spent time alone with him, Hitler was the ultimate romantic, someone to love and in return be loved back.

Hitler was adored by the women of Germany. They flocked in their thousands to see him, to hear him speak. In their eyes he could do no wrong. They might never meet him but they could look, they could listen – and they could fantasise about a future that would never happen. Without the support of women, their help and guidance, Hitler might never have risen to power. In the wild post-war days the Society women of Munich gave him shelter and encouragement. They gave him space and time to climb the slippery political ladder to the top.

At the pinnacle of the German state, he used and abused their adulation and support to maintain his position. Women had taught him how to behave, how to be accepted by polite society. Women had funded his Nazi Party and helped give him an ideology to underpin his movement. He accepted that as his right but ultimately he repaid them by leading the country to the edge of destruction.

This book, Hitler and His Women, looks at all of the women in Hitler’s life, his lovers and his passing flings. From his mother and sisters to a teenage infatuation with a girl he never actually met, from actresses like Zara Leander to English aristocrat Unity Mitford, it examines the relationships and how they affected the course of history. The findings may well astound you.

I think as much as we hate Hitler are also fascinated with his life. There are many interesting facts here to learn about, many of which I didn't know. A great book read for lovers of historical type books.

Loved this book. Lots of interesting information to digest. This is a great read for anyone who loves to read about history. Very well written.

A super interesting read about a different side of Hitler in nonfiction. We know plenty of his own life but often the others besides Eva Braun are ignored. Really good

NetGalley, Sara Marsden

‘Hitler and his Women’ looks at all the women who had any significant interaction with Hitler during his lifetime, as well as a few about which there is only limited evidence.

WW2 Today

Phil Carradice often writes about Welsh history and I have read a number of his books and he has always been a really good historian who writes in a balanced manner. This book does bring a couple of bits of insight into why women are or would be interested in such a bad man, and the historical background information is good to learn about. But I personally think the reasons for some of the loves in his life are down to his growing up and which females influenced his life then. As for why did the women of Germany adore Hitler, that is surely down to what surrounded him for example, his position, propaganda, his media projection and that he was portrayed as the ultimate idol to be looked up to in society. This was a very good book to read and argues good, valuable points to consider. Certainly a good book and would recommend it to others.

One doesn't normally think of Hitler having that much interest in women except, of course, for Eva Braun. Phil Carradice, one of my favourite Pen and Sword historians, sets the record straight.

It's shocking how many beautiful women fell for Hitler - but not as awful as the terrible fates that befell them: New book reveals the Fuhrer's sexual allure and how every affair ended in horror or tragedy

I was glad Carradice showcased Hitler as a complex and multi-faceted individual, instead of just focusing on the immoral, atrocious acts of which he was primarily responsible for committing. It was fascinating to read about why and how so many women were enraptured with him.

Highly informative, easy to read, and great to introduce the topic from.

I enjoyed the 8+ hours I spent reading this 224-page WWII history. The book paints a different image of Adolf Hitler. It surprised me at how many women fawned over him. I was also somewhat surprised at how many women were dedicated Nazis. I like the chosen cover art.

Fine offering by Mr Carradice who focuses on most important women in Hitler's life, beginning with his mother, his female patrons and moving on to his personal life. I have read several books on Hitler but I admit some names were quite new to me.
One thing which I appreciated while reading was that the author does not dwell on gossips, or at least he keeps the distance from some disturbing information on the dictator's sex life if there is no proof but just a hearsay.
The book is well written and a lot of research went into it.

I really enjoyed this book. It showed an entirely different Hitler than I was used to.

This book provides the reader with a well written, interesting and concise look at the women that revolved in Adolph Hitlers orbit. He was influenced by them, his Nazi party was funded by them and they fed him what he craved on several levels.
Hitler was idol worshipped by German females of all ages; teenagers, actresses and aristocrats. To his intimates and his employees he could be kind, considerate and caring. Although Eva Braun is the most famous of Hitler’s lovers, long before her, there were others, his half niece Geli Raubel, shop worker Mitzi Reiter and Henny Hoffman, the daughter of his personal photographer and Hitler’s future secretary. In the early 1930’s British socialite Unity Mitford saw Hitler at a rally in Germany and became obsessed with him and he smitten with her.
Needless to say, the adoration, dedication and support of these very different women assisted Hitler in his rise to power and prominence.
The accounts of Hitler’s relationships can often be the opposite of the ranting and violent leader of the Third Reich. Phil Carradice’s book provides yet another dimension to Adolph Hitler and is a highly recommended read.

Well researched and very concise, this very interesting monograph is the perfect springboard to delve into the subject & to learn more about the Fuhrer's intricate relationships with women at the personal but also political level.

Hitler's Housewives German Women on the Home Front (Hardback)

The meteoric rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party cowed the masses into a sense of false utopia. During Hitler’s 1932 election campaign over half those who voted for Hitler were women. Germany’s women had witnessed the anarchy of the post-First World War years, and the chaos brought about by the rival political gangs brawling on their streets. When Hitler came to power there was at last a ray of hope that this man of the people would restore not only political stability to Germany but prosperity to its people. As reforms were set in place, Hitler encouraged women to step aside from their…
