The T-34 needs no introduction, with this iconic Russian tank of WW2 having been covered in countless books before. The advantage of this 200-page hardback book from Pulham is the description of the different factories involved in the manufacture of the tank, which is actually very important because of detail variations in production. In addition, the photo captions often give an explanation of what to look for, which is something other books rarely provide. The bulk of the book consists of pictures of wrecked and abandoned vehicles, with useful comments on each image. A slight criticism is that none of the photos illustrate a vehicle in use by the Soviets, so there is little to see in terms of stowage and crew uniforms. The pictures show damage and the sort of condition in which the Germans were able to inspect the tanks, but not the ‘mint’ appearance of the T-34 in use.
