Conceived as part of a Top Secret project to disrupt Nazi Germany's atomic bomb program, the hastily developed Studebaker Weasel went on to one of, if not THE most successful of the wartime all-terrain vehicles. Designed with light weight to facilitate both air-dropping and efficient, high-speed operation in the snow, the vehicles were soon found to have excellent performance in the mud. Always amphibious, the later models, the M29C, were equipped with flotation tanks on each end and dual rudders in the rear for even more efficient operation in the water. Weasels were used on numerous fronts during WWII, were once again deployed in Korea, by the French in Vietnam, and numerous outposts during the Cold War. These pages provide an overview of the development, and a detailed look at the deployment and the machines themselves, of these iconic, all-terrain vehicles.

This range of books continues to expand and offer a good source of cheap reference to the modeller, historian or armour enthusiast alike. Some titles are better than others and I feel that David Doyle has produced one of the better titles in the range with this one.

Recommended.

An excellent addition to my library.

Model Kits Review

These pages provide an overview of the development, and a detailed look at the deployment and the machines themselves, of these iconic, all-terrain vehicles. For Weasel enthusiasts, there has always been a lack of printed references. Finally, this book is a major step in filling that gap in military vehicle history. It combines expert, well vetted commentary and captions with historic images and color photos of restored examples of T15/M24s, T24/M29s, and M29Cs.

Miniaturas JM

A valuable resource for anyone wanting to model one of these vehicles; the photographs are from different angles and show most of the details.

IPMS Magazine July-August 2019

I was very impressed with this book. Having no knowledge of the vehicle whatsoever, I was intrigued by the design ideas that brought this vehicle off the drawing board. Doyle gives the reader a full guided tour of the Weasel through his many photographs. I would say this is definitely a book for the modeller, on a subject that really hasn't had too much said about it until now. All we need now is someone to produce a 1/35 scale Weasel!

Recommended for the modeller and vehicle historian.

Rating: Top marks for an excellent publication.

Army Rumour Service (ARRSE)

A perfect reference book for an AFV modeler. As part of the Images of War series it has the expected images of the M29 and its variants in action. It also has some close-up, colour images of 2 particular variants showing invaluable detail at various angles.

This is an interesting volume about a unusual subject and a superb reference for the scale modeller. Three cross section line drawings accompany the tome as well as an appendix with data tables, serial numbers and registration numbers.
